‘Art Media Design’ is a comprehensive reference to the elements, processes, and semiotics of visual design.
As a conceptually based book it is fully illustrated, with each design concept being explored across a double page spread.
The book is large format 260mm x 330mm with over 400 pages.
Currently the illustrations and final edit are being completed for publication later in 2007.
Introduction
This book started when I was looking for a reference in visual design. Once I saw the need for a book such as this I then worked on the concept, that was in 1991. From then on I have been working with it part time in one way or another.
I have enjoyed exploring, creating and experimenting with various arts and crafts as part of the book’s development. Both the writing and the exploration demanded my time and energy, each competing for attention.
The order of the chapters loosely links with a design process.
Though a design can start anywhere in the book, the flow from structure to the final design mirrors the process I loosely follow in my art.
I’m often asked whom is the book written for? Mostly me, and all
Thanks to all those who have guided, influenced and supported me, my life and my art.
Especially my parents, family, friends and my wife, thanks Gail.
As the book is still in development there are no available samples.
I imagined the book would be smaller, but this data sculpture began to define itself. As I worked it expanded in some areas, and contracted in others.
Several chapters have been written, only to be deleted from this book. It is alright though, they are now part of further books that will follow, and expand upon this one.

Two books are nearing completion; ‘Art Media Design’ and ‘Visual Communication Dictionary’
These will form the basis for the expansion of our catalogue, with more books in development.
Visual Communication Dictionary
by Richard Lamond
The dictionary is a parallel development to ‘Art Media Design’. Where ‘Art Media Design’ is a conceptually based book, the ‘Visual Communication Dictionary’ uses alphabetical order. The conceptual structure remains as a cross reference, but there are no illustrations.
The dictionary is A5 format, with about 2500 entries over 250 pages.
